Our Mission

To make restorative, well-run yoga retreats easy to find, honestly presented and fairly priced — for every traveller, and for the teachers and hosts who create them.

That's the whole of it. Everything below is what it means in practice, and how we intend to be held to it.

Why this needs saying

Wellness travel has become a very large industry very quickly, and it grew faster than its own standards did. The result is a market where the loudest listing often wins rather than the best one.

Travellers feel this constantly. Prices appear only after you submit an enquiry form. “All-inclusive” turns out to exclude transfers, dinner and the excursion in the photograph. The teacher's name is nowhere on the page. Photos are five years old, or belong to a different property entirely. A booking fee appears at the final step. And beneath all of it sits a specific kind of marketing that suggests you're a slightly incomplete person who needs fixing — which is the opposite of what any decent teacher will tell you.

Retreat organisers feel it just as sharply from the other side. A gifted teacher with twelve years of practice and a beautiful, carefully built retreat is competing for attention against whoever has the biggest advertising budget. Many of the best hosts we work with are excellent at what they do and understandably uninterested in becoming full-time marketers.

Our mission is aimed squarely at both problems, because they're the same problem seen from opposite ends: good work isn't reaching the people who want it, and the people who want it can't tell what's good.

What we commit to

1. Honest listings before glossy marketing

Every retreat on Yoga Holidays has to state the things that actually determine whether it's right for you: who is teaching and what they're qualified in, how many hours of practice a day, what style, what level, what the food is, what the room is, what's included and — just as importantly — what isn't. Photography must show the real property. We send listings back when they're vague, and we edit for clarity rather than for persuasion.

We would rather you skip a retreat that isn't right for you than book it on the strength of a beautiful photo and spend a week wishing you were somewhere else. A retreat that suits you is worth ten that merely photograph well.

2. Fair, transparent pricing — and no fees on top

The price you see is the price you pay. No booking fee, no service charge, no “platform” line item added at the last step. If a retreat charges a single supplement or a deposit, that appears on the listing, before you commit — not after.

Our best price guarantee follows from the same commitment: if you find the same retreat cheaper elsewhere, we match it. Booking through us should be the easy choice, never the expensive one. We're paid by our retreat partners, on terms that don't push prices up, and we'd rather earn less per booking than build a business that depends on people not reading carefully.

3. Backing independent teachers and small hosts

A great deal of the finest teaching in the world happens in places with a dozen beds and no marketing department. Those hosts are the reason this industry is worth anything, and they are the first to be squeezed out when discovery is decided by ad spend.

So we list retreats for free, we don't sell our way to the top of our own search results in exchange for kickbacks, and we work hard to make sure a small, superb retreat in an unfashionable region can be found by the person who would love it. Our partner standards are high on purpose — because credibility is the one asset a small host can't buy, and a platform that protects it is worth more to them than one that doesn't.

4. Respect for the places and people who host us

Retreat travel happens in real communities, often in places where tourism is a significant part of local life. We ask our partners to hire locally, pay properly, source food locally where they can, and treat local spiritual and cultural practice as something to be respected rather than repackaged. We give preference to hosts who can show us they do.

We're also honest about the environmental side. A flight is a flight, and no amount of bamboo straws offsets it. What we can do is favour retreats that are genuinely well-run, encourage longer stays over frequent short-haul hops, and put real weight behind good retreats close to home — because “somewhere restorative, three hours away” is a better answer more often than the industry likes to admit.

5. Yoga for every body, and every budget

Retreats have an image problem: expensive, flexible, thin, twenty-eight and photogenic. That image is wrong, and it keeps out a great many people who would benefit most.

We work to list retreats across the full range of prices, including genuinely affordable ones. We push our partners to be clear and welcoming about experience level, body type, age, mobility and dietary needs. We ask for accessibility information on every listing. And we describe retreats in plain language — “beginners welcome, three hours of practice a day, vegetarian meals, shared rooms” — instead of the vague spiritual poetry that makes it impossible to tell whether you'd cope.

If you have never held a downward dog and you're not sure you belong on a yoga retreat: you do, and part of our job is making that obvious.

How we hold ourselves to this

Commitments that no one measures are just decoration. Ours are checked against:

  • Every listing is reviewed by a person before publication — and re-reviewed when prices, dates or ownership change.
  • We read every review and complaint we receive, and we follow up with the organiser directly. Repeat problems mean removal from the platform, regardless of how much business a partner brings us.
  • We publish no fake urgency. No invented “3 people are viewing this”, no countdown timers, no fabricated scarcity. If a retreat has two spots left, it's because it has two spots left.
  • We don't sell your data. Your enquiry goes to the retreat you're enquiring about, and nowhere else.
  • When we get it wrong, we say so and we fix it. If a retreat isn't what our listing said it was, tell us — we treat that as our failure, not yours.

What we ask of our partners

If you host retreats with us, our mission becomes a set of practical expectations: describe your retreat accurately, price it the same here as everywhere else, answer guests promptly, honour your stated cancellation terms, use your own photographs, and be straightforward about who your retreat suits and who it doesn't.

None of that is difficult for hosts who are already doing the work properly — and every good partner we've spoken to has recognised immediately why it matters. It's what makes a listing on Yoga Holidays mean something.

An invitation

We think a week spent moving, eating well, sleeping properly and paying attention is one of the most straightforwardly useful things a person can do for themselves. Not transformative in a brochure sense. Just genuinely, measurably good for you — and far more attainable than the industry's photography suggests.

Our mission is to remove everything standing between you and that week: the confusion, the hidden costs, the guesswork and the doubt about whether you'd fit in.

The rest is up to you and a good teacher.
